Have you ever been so excited you forgot how to properly dress yourself!?
I have.
It was my first day of Kindergarten, my first day of "real school!"
I was so excited I could even think straight.
I remember having breakfast (cinnamon oatmeal of course), brushing my teeth, and then putting my school clothes on.
But there was only one problem. I had put my school clothes on OVER my pajamas that I was wearing.
It was getting close to when we needed to leave the house, so I ran down the hall and told my Mom that I was "Ready to go!"
She laughed and asked me why I put my clothes on over my pajamas.
Dumbfounded, until that moment I had not even realized that I had put my clothes on right over the top of my pajamas.
When is the last time you have been that excited!?
It may have been when you were a kid.
Maybe it was at a concert as an adult.
It is understandable that we might not get quite as excited about things as we get older, especially when you are comparing it to the joy and excitement of a kid.
In fact, we as adults probably don't get too excited all that often..
However, bringing about a more positive world, community, workplace, home, and relationships does require excitement!
But being excited can be hard, especially when it is just for yourself. We typically don't want to be too excited because we want to show humility.
But you have every right to be excited for yourself, the things you have accomplished and your successes.
My suggestion is to start by being excited for someone else, and genuinely show excitement for them!
Example - if your friend gets promoted, tell them how proud you are of them and let them know you can't wait to see what they will all accomplish.
This creates and allows a space for them to express excitement.
What I believe you will find is that expressing excitement for others will be a little bit easier. But hopefully once you do this more often for others, you will be able to be excited for yourself when those truly fun and wonderful moments do arrive!
