"Leadership is having the privilege to be present during the messiest times of peoples' lives"
Leadership is a privilege not a right.
Sometimes people are put into positions and roles of authority, and they feel they can do what they want and make their own decisions.
I think most of us know how that works out..
Or some of us have come across those type of people in our lives..
But to me, and if I am blatantly honest. Sometimes leadership sucks.
It's hard, it's messy, and it often times is unrewarding.
But it is also a privilege.
Leadership is not to be taken lightly.
It is not to be minimized.
It is not to be ignored.
It is a privilege. Just like other privileges in life.
And with more privilege comes more responsibility.
When I reflect on my leadership journey, the moments that stand out to me and the moments I am most proud of are the moments that have absolutely nothing to do with business.
It has to do with the messy times.
It's being there for a coworker when their parent is passing away, and they are trying to balance work yet cherish every moment they can get with their loved one.
It is listening and supporting people through a separation and divorce.
It is having conversations with tears in your eyes hearing about something bad happening to a colleague's kid.
It's trying to encourage someone on your team when they are dealing with health problems that don't have answers.
Being present in those moments is a privilege.
Even though I said leadership is sometimes unrewarding and not easy, there is a sense of peace knowing that as leader you have the opportunity to give love and support when it is needed most.
