Legacy Does Not Equal Loyalty

Updated: May 16, 2024

Legacy ≠ Loyalty

Legacy does not equal loyalty.

People do not have to be at a company for 20, 30, or 40+ years to “leave a legacy.”

Your legacy is not determined by your time at one sole organization.

Gone are the days and the mindset that you have to be at a company for 20, 30, or 40 years to leave a legacy or make an incredible impact that can last decades after leaving.

You can even leave a legacy across multiple companies and throughout multiple careers.

Just ask any leaders who have changed careers.

The definition of the word legacy is “the long-lasting impact of particular events, actions, etc. that took place in the past, or of a person’s life.”

Although people who work at 1 organization for 20 or more years often do leave a legacy, it is not necessarily because of the time spent there.

It is how they made people feel. It is how they impacted others. It is how they helped the organization transform during those years.

But you can also leave a legacy in a short time as well, so long as the impact is long-lasting.

What legacy will you leave?
